La carte grise est un titre de police permettant l’identification du véhicule ainsi que sa mise ou son maintien en circulation. Contrairement à ce que l’on peut croire, le certificat d’immatriculation n’est pas un titre de propriété comme le stipule l’arrêté du 5 novembre 1984 relatif à l’immatriculation des véhicules.
Ce titre de police est obligatoire pour pouvoir circuler sur la voie publique. Il doit être présenté en cas de contrôle par les forces de l’ordre. Afin de garantir la bonne identification du véhicule et des informations le concernant, la mise à jour du titre de police « carte grise » est bien évidemment indispensable. Toute contravention peut être sanctionnée par une amende de 4eme catégorie.
