L’usage « véhicule de démonstration » est strictement réservé aux professionnels de l’automobile tels que les concessionnaires, les constructeurs, les représentants de la marque, etc. Seuls les véhicules légers d’un PTAC inférieur ou égal à 3,5 tonnes sont éligibles à l’usage « véhicule de démonstration ». La demande de mise en démonstration se fait en ligne. Le professionnel devra par ailleurs justifier sa qualité de concessionnaire, constructeur, etc.
Comme le nom l’indique, ces véhicules sont destinés à la démonstration du modèle et aux essais clients. Ce sont par ailleurs les seules utilisations que le professionnel peut faire d’un véhicule de démonstration. Un véhicule de démonstration doit être affecté à la démonstration pendant au moins 3 mois, mais ne doit pas dépasser les 12 mois.
En cas de vente du véhicule de démonstration en dehors de cette période, le professionnel devra s’acquitter de l’intégralité des taxes liées à l’immatriculation. Aucun paiement n’aura toutefois lieu, si le professionnel vend le véhicule de démonstration pendant cette période de 3 à 12 mois.
