Le genre national des véhicules concernés par la carrosserie VTTE est CYCL pour les cyclomoteurs à trois-roues. La disposition des trois-roues dépend du modèle : deux-roues à l’avant et une à l’arrière ou une roue à l’avant et deux à l’arrière. Les modèles de triporteurs à moteur à deux-roues à l’arrière sont les plus répandus.
Ces triporteurs à moteurs sont des véhicules utilitaires dérivés d’un cyclomoteur. La cylindrée de ces cyclomoteurs carrossés VTTE ne dépasse pas 50 cm3. A l’instar des autres cyclomoteurs, la vitesse maximale d’un VTTE ne doit pas dépasser 45 km/h. Ils sont par ailleurs soumis aux mêmes obligations que les scooters 50 cm3.
Par conséquent un VTTE doit être immatriculé pour pouvoir circuler sur la voie publique. Son propriétaire doit également être en possession du permis AM s’il est né après le 1er Janvier 1988.
