La destruction d’un véhicule doit obligatoirement être effectuée par un centre VHU (véhicule hors usage) agréé. En effet, les véhicules contiennent des substances chimiques parfois dangereuse (notamment pour l’environnement) qui doivent être évacuées lors de la destruction. La remise pour destruction d’un véhicule complet est par ailleurs gratuite. Lors d’une demande de destruction, un certain nombre de documents doit être fourni au centre VHU. Il s’agit notamment de la carte grise barrée, portant la mention « vendu/cédé le DATE pour destruction ». De plus, un certificat de situation administrative et un certificat de cession sont également demandés. En cas d’absence de carte grise, un document justifiant cette absence devra être fourni.
